MKN Alumni Spotlight
Meet one of our amazing TRIO SSS alumni – Benjamin Hager!
Today, we’re highlighting an alum who is continuing to make
a difference by helping create a more accepting and inclusive environment for
students.
What are you doing now?
I am an elementary (K–5) Special Education Paraprofessional.
I get to help make sure that school is an accepting and inclusive place for all
students and staff.
How did TRIO impact your high school and college
experience?
I loved being part of the TRIO program! Being a peer mentor
was my first job, and it gave me valuable experience working with a diverse
group of people while helping me develop important skills that I now use in the
classroom.
TRIO helped me graduate on track, build lasting professional
and personal relationships, and gain the confidence to be myself.
What is something you’re proud of accomplishing?
Being my true self in both my professional and personal
life.
What advice would you give current TRIO and GEAR UP
students?
“Trust that you can do hard things because you have had to
persevere your entire life and you’ve made it this far. You are stronger and
more capable than you think.”
Why are TRIO and GEAR UP programs important?
They help you graduate, but they also help you form lasting
connections and develop skills that you can use throughout your entire life.
Thank you for sharing your story and reminding us of the lasting impact TRIO can have!
